The Naked Fear

Hey guys. I don't know how many of you ever sit there and look at your name on the lower part of the DPS charts and wonder why you suck, but I know as of late I have. I would like to get my DPS up and am looking and open to suggestions here. As a point of reference my ilvl is 354 and I have read about my rotation on elitist jerks. I don't even know if anyone else is raiding with main spec boomkin right now but I know some of you are a lot smarter than me with this stuff and I'm looking to improve.

I don't have World of Logs stuff but do you think maybe we could try to get some data so that I can go through and see how my spell rotation is stacking up to other boomkins on world of logs? And maybe have an experienced boomkin person go through them with me?

Thoughts are welcome and encouraged. I think I have a good feel for the fights now and would really like to increase my dps and be a more effective raider.

I have the same problem on those fights I switch specs on Hearthyn. And I've read the elitist jerks forums, too. I have actually been meaning to re-read the forum and practice--even though I mainly heal, I would like to actually be able to contribute decently when I have to switch.

I have us set up at World of Logs now. We are active as a guild. I am gonna try to start recording our fights--I did a couple of them on our alt run last night. My problem is I keep forgetting to get it set up and /combatlog before our raids... >_<

One last thing--are you using insect swarm? Have you tampered with your Custom Lag Tolerance so that you can always have a spell in queue? Are you making sure you are watching your eclipses and are using the appropriate spells? Nothing hurts boomchicken dps like using wrath during a lunar eclipse, and vice versa. And not just during the eclipse--watch your bar so you know if you are heading for a lunar eclipse, and thus need to continue spamming wrath. Keep your dots up, and you should be fine--at least until you have to move...which is every fight now...

Hey Hearthyn! Thanks for the response. Yes I use insect swarm and I have a good spell queue in place. I have an awesome add-on that helps with my eclipses and I know that I'm using the correct spells and when an eclipse is upcoming. I was actually just browsing through some WoL and realized that on some fights like Magmaw, I should be using a ton of wild mushrooms that I am not at all to be honest. I feel like an idiot but it makes perfect sense for all of those adds for me to put up a field of mean poisonous mushrooms. I'm going to continue doing some research I think but for Cho'Gall, Maloriak, and Magmaw type encounters I guess the use of wild mushrooms which got a good increase in radius since we first got it should be an easy fix to dps. More to come as I find more and let me know if anyone else finds anything.

actually, according to my reading and world of logs and stuff i hear, boomkin is supposed to be top dps, followed closely by shadow priests. but this is just what ive heard/ read. regarding rotation, i have NO idea how it works, i know nothing about druids. but talking straight numbers, boomkins with the appropriate gear are the top dps atm.

but that information i read / heard is prob a month or so old

I did just a preliminary search and found Rathors, right here on Korgath. He is listed as number one for dps on 10m normal Magmaw at World of Logs. You can find his dps stats here: World of logs Real Time Raid Analysis. I think it's interesting that his pets and magic mushrooms did the most damage of all his spells. Here's his armory link if you wanna check out his spec: Rathors--Korgath. Warning--he was in pvp gear when I looked at it, and I believe his current spec is for pvp as well, so don't go changing yours without making sure.

For 10m Normal, he and several other balance druids are listed for Magmaw. I see NONE listed for any other boss. For 25m normal, one is listed as top for Nefarian, and I see them in the top for Atramedes and Chimaeron, but that's it. On Heroic, I see 7 balance druids listed for 10m total, and 3 of those are for Magmaw. In 25m heroic, the only boss balance druids don't make a showing for is Magmaw--go figure.

I looked up BoT--seems balance dominates Valiona and Theralion and Ascendant Council. They also make the top for Heroic Lady Sinestra. I don't have time at the moment to look up their individual dps charts, but you can find all the info at World of Logs. You may wanna research several of the top ones--their specs, spells, etc.

It looks to me, just at first glance, that we are having the same problem every other ranged dps is having. We need to stand still to do the best, and Cata is designed to keep us moving and challenge us. Well, and they simply love mages. Plain and simple. LOL! (Look at the logs--you'll see what I mean.)
