I have levelled Amastaa 1-80 and raided for a long time as Enh. However when 3.3 came out i tried ele on the PTR, liked being lazy and doing some pewpew, so traded resto for ele as my offspec. It was geared WAY past Enh in about a week... So, it snuck its way into main spec spot. Well, after doing some ICC all i have been getting (and paying for) is Enh stuff. After getting a really nice axe, i decided it was finally time to update my enhance gear with gems and chants and do some homework on what i have missed during my time of lazy Elemental goodness. I am posting much of what I have looked up here so that others may benefit if they want.

First of all, for those of you unfamiliar with shamans, Enhance is the "melee" dps spec. However. it is the most melee/spellcaster integrated class in the game, even more so since WotLK. For example, enh shammies have talents that gives them 100% of ap from INT, and 30% of their AP is translated into SP. Think of us as more "melee ranged spellcasters"

We are also the least played class, on all servers, horde and alliance. There were times back in BC when i could /who shamans and get very few, out of any level. Levelling them until 60 is a bit of a chore. And until recently, they weren't the best dps either. But they haz totems, and that made them important still. Nowadays, though still seemingly rare, there are a LOT more running around... mainly because they have been buffed almost every patch since WotLK. Apparently one of the higher-ups in Blizzard hierarchy rerolled shamz

Now to get to the info that i wanted to share. Maybe its well known and I'm making a fool out of myself for just recently figuring this out... but oh well. A lot of this is changed since I was enh. As an enh shaman, we are essentially melee dps, so the first cap we need to hit is melee special at 8%. We get 6% melee hit from talents and 1% from draenei racial... which means we only need 1% hit to hit that cap!

The next cap that is important to hit is exp cap. 26 needed total, but we get 9 from talents, so a exp rating of 140 is what we need. That will stop them from dodging our WFs

The next cap kinda surprised me, but makes sense. After hitting the exp cap, it is important that we hit the spell hit cap at 17%. Our talents don't affect spell hit so we are on our own for this one... Luckily due to changes in WoTLK for hit rating, increasing spell hit also increases melee hit, so it will make our white damage all the better.

After hitting this cap we can now gem stats, such as AP/Haste. Agil and crit are important too, but ap and haste are more important.

For more info see this post, written by the same author that wrote my favorite addon... Shock and Awe. It also has our new priority system for rotation.
